Post M.Sc Diploma in Genetic Engineering and Bioprocess Development
The one year course, supported by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India, is with the aim of providing specialized training and skills to both in-service candidates from industry as well as fresh students in specific areas of genetic engineering and bioprocess development and allied areas of application value. Such a course offers an ideal opportunity to train human resource and work together with industry in the newly emerging areas of biotechnology. It also fulfills a major need to the industry in this region.
Eligibility and Selection process
Minimum 50% marks in M.Sc with Microbiology/Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/allied branches of biological sciences. Selection to the course shall be based on an Entrance Test and Viva voce (interview) to be conducted in the department. Industry/Institutions sponsored candidates will be exempted from the written test. Course outlines for Entrance Test The question paper of 100 marks for entrance exam will have questions at the level of B.Sc/M.Sc from all or some of the areas in Microbiology/Biotechnology/Biochemistry and other related disciplines. 100 marks will be for interview/viva. The Entrance test will be conducted along with PG courses entrance test of the Faculty of Science in July every year. Admission Forms will be available from the Centre from June 1 to 15 of every year (tentative dates). Intake of Students & Studentship Ten students will be admitted, including 5 candidates who may be sponsored by industries/institutions. Admitted students will be paid a studentship of Rs.5000/-p.m. Fee structure and Exam fees In addition to the fees prescribed by the University, an additional special fee of Rs. 20,000/- per year by the regular candidate and Rs. 30,000/- by candidates sponsored by Industry to be paid to the Centre towards infrastructural development and other purposes to run this course. Admitted students will be paid a studentship of Rs.5000/-p.m. Faculty Apart from the faculty of the Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology Centre, eminent scientists from various institutions/ industry shall also be involved in conducting this course.
Facilities available T he Centre has a well defined independent laboratory with facilities for carrying out research in various areas of biotechnology, housing modern infrastructure to conduct work in Bioprocess Development. Apart from the Central Library (Smt. Hansa Mehta Library), of the University, the departmental library of the centre subscribes to numerous journa ls specialized in the field of
Biotechnology. It has a collection of more than 1000 text and reference books.

set up by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, New Delhi.
Course Curriculum Course work is spread over a period of one year, encompassing 3 papers covering the broad areas of advance training in Microbiology and Immunology, Genetic Engineering and Bioprocess Development. Evaluation shall be based on several of rounds of tests, culminating in a final examination after the end of the academic year. Students also undertake a research project leading to a dissertation, in addition to laboratory practical examinations. Project work shall be carried out as a part of practical training.
