Objective

• Promote the use of new and emerging technologies including genome analysis and bioinformatics for the study of plant and microbial genomes, with special reference to applications for agriculture, environment and industry.

• Improvements in conventional breeding procedures by using marker assisted selection.

• Production of transgenic plants conferring resistance to fungal pathogens.

• Documentation of microbial diversity in Gujarat State and the development of bioprocess based on these.

The centre will act as a resource base in our region, for the adoption and development of new technologies and as an important input for the development of biotechnology in the state of Gujarat.
